“Nung una wini-wish ko na sana mahirap yung role ko para madali magdamit, ganyan, ganyan. Pero yung theme nung show is about yung family lifestyle and all so at least mapapakita ko lang kung ano yung meron ako. Dito sa Ina Kapatid, Anak, I’ll be playing a very rich kid na siguro masasabi ko na hindi ganun ka-seryoso sa buhay and masaya ako kasi labanan ng yaman ito so lahat ng mga damit, sapatos na hindi nagagamit, mapapakinabangan,” he told Push.com.ph.

In this new teleserye, Enchong will be paired up with good friend Maja Salvador. “I’m happy kasi sinabi ko nga sa kanya na ang tagal kong hinantay na maka-partner siya. Siguro mahirap para sa amin kasi barkada talaga kami pero kailangan namin ipakita yung love angle and kailangan mong hugutin yun somewhere kasi ‘di ba kung magkaibigan yung ipo-portray madali lang pero with something more than that so kailangan namin i-experiment pa yun.”

Enchong said he hopes that their onscreen chemistry will show once the series airs. “Sana, sana lumabas yung sa aming dalawa kasi magaling naman siyang artista eh so kumbaga madali lang para sa kanya yun. Madali rin siya ka-eksena kasi kunwari aakbayan ko siya, madali para sa akin yun, kumbaga hindi ilang. Hindi katulad kung parang first time na magkakilala. Pinakamaganda dun, barkada ko kasi si Matteo (Guidicelli, Maja’s boyfriend),” he said.

Enchong said he is not worried at all that issues might arise from him doing scenes with Maja. The talented actor said there is no reason for Maja’s boyfriend to be jealous because they are also good friends in real life. “Okay kay Matteo. In fact, yinayaya pa nga niya akong mag-bike, sinasabi niya sa akin, ‘Bili ka na bro ng bike mo para mag-bike na tayo.’ So we’re good. We’re friends,” he explained.

In this new adult drama, Enchong said there is a possibility that he will be baring some skin although it is not confirmed yet. But if it does, Enchong said he is not scared after showing off a sexier and more mature image in Maria la Del Barrio. “Yung pagiging sexy yan ang hindi ko pa alam kasi siguro alam naman nila na confident na ako to bare a little skin so tingnan natin. Pero as of now hindi pa naman nasasabi,” he said.

Enchong is currently shooting for his movie The Reunion and will also soon start taping for his new teleserye, which will also star Maja Salvador, Xian Lim and Kim Chiu. In the teleserye Ina, Kapatid, Anak, Enchong will be paired with Maja for the first time. “It’s another chapter of your career, of whatever work you have,” he said.

He added that he is excited to work with Maja, who known for being a good actress. “Sana matulungan niya ako [pagdating sa acting]. Hindi namin alam kung ano ie-expect. Ang teleserye nga umaabot ng isang taon kasama ‘yung preparation, parang panibago na iba ‘yung makakapareha mo, hindi katulad ng movie na maikli lang so hindi namin alam kung ano ie-expect.”

Coincidentally, in both the new teleserye and the movie, Enchong will be working with Xian. The two young actors have been constantly compared to each other nowadays. The athlete-turned-actor shared that comparison is normal and understandable and the good thing is that he and Xian don’t let the competition get the best of them. “Hindi mo maiiwasan kasi ‘yung ginagawa namin pareho. It’s a good thing na hindi kaming dalawa ang nag-clash. Okay kami, magkaibigan kami, kaya wala kaming kailangang maging isyu kasi okay kami,” he clarified.

Since they are co-stars, Push.com.ph asked Enchong if he and Xian got to talk about being pitted against each other. Enchong replied, “Hindi. Kasi hindi naman talaga siya big thing para [sabihin na], ‘Pag-usapan natin ito, bro.’ It’s just another thing that’s part of your work. ‘Di big thing ang bagay na ito.” He agreed that the comparison between them could motivate them both to be on their toes and prove that they are perfect for whatever role or work is assigned to them.

Meanwhile, Enchong said that the movie is almost finished. The Reunion will also star Julia Montes, Jessy Mendiola, Megan Young, Kean Cipriano, and Enrique Gil. Enchong said that one good result of doing the movie is that they all became good friends. “Ang hirap pala, pare-pareho kayong makukulit. ‘Pag nagsama-sama parang clash. Pero it’s a good clash kasi ‘yung energy namin naghahatakan kami pataas, kasi ‘yun ang kailangan ng movie, uplifting ‘yung movie, eh,” Enchong explained.

Dee, whose tandem with Gonzales has spanned four TV series and two films, is gearing up for a new soap opera, which will see his first team-up with actress Maja Salvador.

“First time kong gagawa ng teleserye na hindi si Erich ‘yung makakasama ko, and si Maja ‘yung makakasama. And I’m so happy dahil matagal ko nang hino-hope na si Maja naman maka-pareha ko. To begin with, barkada na talaga kami without having any shows together,” Dee said on Friday during the show’s story conference.

Joining Dee and Salvador in the new soap, titled “Ina, Anak, Kapatid,” are actress Kim Chiu and actor Xian Lim. The show, directed by Don Cuaresma and Jojo Saguin, will take on the heavy drama route, Dee said.

“Actually naging mas masaya ako nung nalaman kong drama ‘tong gagawin namin. Telenovela kung telenovela ‘tong gagawin namin. Kasi nagwo-worry ako baka light nanaman. Ngayon talagang drama. Labanan kami ng yaman dito, ‘yun sigurado ‘yun, [parang] rich kids,” Dee said.

Shoe conflict

The characters’ riches come from their thriving business in the shoe industry, which will also be the source of the story’s conflict, he said.

“Beside dun sa story ng ina, kapatid at anak, iikot rin kami sa sapatos, so simula palang, minsan may mga shots kami mula sa paa going up, so pagandahan ng sapatos,” he said. “So doon iikot, sa sapatos, du’n ‘yung trabaho, ‘yung conflict, sa shoe industry, atsaka yumaman ‘yung pamilya dahil sa shoe industry.”

While he plays another “rich kid” role in the new soap – his previous character Luis Fernando in “Maria la del Barrio” had his own furniture business – Dee said his new role in “Ina” has other marked differences from his “angry” character in “Maria.”

“Si Luis kasi nagsimula sa galit eh, puro galit siya. Dito siguro simula palang andu’n na ‘yung pagiging romantic, ‘yung love story agad. And at the same time, hindi siya seryosong tao, unlike Luis. Ito prior to meeting the love team, masayahin na kami,” Dee said.

‘No pressure’

Aside from his new love team with Salvador, Dee also finds confidence in his other co-stars in the upcoming series.

“Hindi pa ako nakakaramdam ng pressure kasi I’m with four amazing actors of my generation na alam ko na hindi nila hahayaan na lumaylay ‘yung kwento. Ngayon kampante ako kasi kasama ko Kim, Rayver (Cruz), Xian,” Dee said.

While Dee gears up for filming of “Ina, Anak, Kapatid,” the young actor is also busy shooting for Star Cinema’s “The Reunion,” where he will star with actress Jessy Mendiola, and actors Kean Cipriano, Enrique Gil and Lim.

“So, everyday is a bonding day for us.

“So, kung may mga lakad siya kinukwento niya sa akin, and kung may mga concerns siya, not only sa akin but also kahit kanino, sinasabi niya.

Bilang host ng isang cooking show, bukod sa natututo siya’y mas nagiging malawak ang kanyang pamilyaridad sa iba’t ibang putahe.

“My mom is a great cook, and I have a food blog and sometimes nagre-request ako sa kanya na magluto siya ng Korean dish na hindi ko pa alam.

“Then I’ll learn from her, I’ll take pictures, then write about it and upload it on my blog.

“You know, we enjoy doing it a lot.”

Gaano man ka-abala ang mga paborito nating artista, nagagawa pa rin nilang makipag-bonding kasama ang kanilang mga ina.

The Ina, Kapatid, Anak star said he is very happy that it was good timing that his mom will be with him this weekend. “For Mother’s day, since nandito si mom, I was hoping na sana if there’s a chance we can go out of the country sana but that’s a very slim chance. Kung hindi naman yun, I’ll just have dinner for her and make her feel special. Wala namang place in particular,” he said.

Enchong, on the other hand, refused to divulge his Mother’s day gift, but admitted he prepared it in advance as a nice surprise for his mom. “Nung nalaman ko na Sunday siya, may nakatago na akong regalo for my mom na nakuha ko siya two weeks ago kasi alam ko wala na akong time pag lumalapit na yung Mothers Day. Basta pagdating ko galing Bacolod didiretso na ako sa bahay. Sana. Wini-wish ko talaga na sana walang shooting para makapag-celebrate. If not, imo-move ko yung date to either Monday or Tuesday para magawa yun,” he said.

Enchong said his mom is one of the most important people in his life. “My mom is my business partner, my financial adviser, and my biggest fan,” he said. When asked what their favorite bonding activity is, he said jokingly, “Counting money (laughs). No actually we unwind siguro pag nagpapa-relax. Si mama kasi gusto palagi magpa-massage. Silang dalawa ni papa, sila yung sabay nagpapa-masahe pero home service para pagkatapos nila magpa-massage tulog na agad,” he said.

Maja Salvador said that she and her family plan to spend a day pampering themselves and just unwinding by a pool. “Siguro on Mother’s day, bilang may work ako nun, after ng ASAP, mag-che-check-in kami sa hotel, ganun. Kasi nag-e-enjoy yung mommy ko pag sobrang nag-ba-bonding kaming tatlo. Ako, yung brother ko at saka siya. So dinner, ganyan tapos swimming, swimming, ayun,” she shared.

The talented young actress said she finds comfort in her mom no matter how tired or busy she is. “Para kaming magkaibigan lang, nagkukulitan. Walang pagbabago. Kung meron man, paganda ng paganda, mas lumalalim yung pagiging mag-ina namin. Favorite bonding activity yung pag uuwi ko tapos madaling araw na, kakatukin ko siya tapos lagi kong sinasabi na tabi kami. Kasi gusto ko na lagi kaming tabi sa kama eh. So yun ang lagi kong ginagawa ko, yun ang mga favorite ko, yun na kasi ang pinbaka-bonding ko with her,” Maja told Push.com.ph.

They will be part of the teleserye Ina, Kapatid, Anak, which will also feature Enchong Dee and Maja Salvador. Members of the press were able to interview the young stars during a story conference held last night, May 11, at the 9501 restaurant at the ELJ Building in Quezon City.

Xian says about this project: “Dito magkakaibigan kami ni Enchong. We’re good friends and as the story unfolds, magkikita-kita ang landas namin, makikita ang twists ands turns of the story.”

When asked to describe her role, Kim revealed: “Character ko dito palaban, dreamer, mataas ang pangarap niya sa buhay kahit mahirap lang kami.”

Meanwhile, Maja portrays a rich girl who becomes the girlfriend of Enchong’s character.

The young stars will be joined by Ronaldo Valdez, Janice de Belen, Cherry Pie Picache, Eddie Gutierrez, Ariel Rivera, Jayson Gainza as well as Rayver Cruz.

Enchong made the revelation during a press conference on Tuesday for the new Jollibee Float, held at the Jollibee Roosevelt branch in San Juan City. Enchong said he will soon be working with Maja for an upcoming teleserye for ABS-CBN.

“For now, all I could reveal is that I’ll be working with Maja in my next project, because we haven’t had a story conference yet, but marami kami dito.”

Enchong showed a bit of apprehension with the new team up but said he was excited to be working with Maja. “This is the first time I won’t be with Erich, so it will be another challenge, another chapter for me,” the young actor said. “But Maja is a very good actress, and I hope she’d be able to help me improve my acting as well.”

Dream role

From being a champion swimmer (winning 400 medals so far) and fashion model, Ernest Lorenzo Velasquez Dee has become one of the most sought after young actors of today. He became popular for his TV roles in My Girl, My Only Hope, Boystown, Tanging Yaman, and movies such as Paano Ko Sasabihin?, Sa ‘Yo Lamang and Best Friends Forever (BFF), among others.

When asked about his dream role, Enchong says he had always wanted to do a historical bio-flick of Andres Bonifacio. “There have been many movies about our national hero Jose Rizal but not about Bonifacio, so if given the chance, I’d be more than willing to do it” he said.

“I want to do a historical film or bio, because people would not easily forget it and would last a very long time, and you could always show it to the kids who study history,” he added.

His current movie project entitled The Reunion may not be historical, but could very well be historic for Enchong as it would be the first time for him to work with Kean Cipriano, Enrique Gil and Xian Lim.

The movie is already 70 percent done and he says it has been really fun to do.

“It was fun to do kasi nung nagsi-simula di namin alam if magkakaroon ng chemistry dahil ‘di naman kami close pero it turned out great.

“Even though the movie is an ensemble of a lot of artists, wala naman nangyaring sapawan,” he stressed. “Each of us had our own moments and stories, and ang pinakamganda is ang bida of the movie is its plot—hindi lang yung mga artista.”

Special someone

As one of the hottest young leading men in the country, it’s not surprising that Enchong has often been linked the actresses he has worked with; and although he denied having a girlfriend at this time, he did admit to having a “special someone.”

While he refused to give names, rumors have often linked him to Reunion costar Julia Montes.

He admitted they had inspired each other to become a better person, but is willing to wait for the right time to formalize their relationship.

“We are very happy and have constant communication naman, she has taught me to value my health to take time to sleep and relax, kasi mahirap daw ma-burn out,” he narrated.

Enchong confessed to being a workaholic saying he didn’t want to waste the opportunities being given to him.

“Sayang naman kung papakawalan ko yung opportunities, but she tells me to take it slow and enjoy my life.”

This, he said, was the reason why he went cliff diving and shark diving in Hawaii during the recent Kapamilya US tour. “We also watched several Broadways shows, as well as an NBA game so even though it was work solve na din yung summer break ko.”

Since Mother’s Day is just a few days away, The Manila Times also asked him about his relationship with his mom.”

“I wish I could say I was a mama’s boy kaya lang my mom and dad are so equal [in treating us], I think mas lolas’s boy ako,” he said with a smile.

“Sobrang alaga ako ng lola ko, like when I was a kid, pati yung grapes binabalatan niya just to be sure na walang germs. Sabi ko nga buti na lang di ako lumaking spoiled brat kasi pangit.

“My mom naman is so supportive; I don’t even have to ask her for advice kasi parang she knows it already. She’d tell me to take things slow when she sees I’m tired; sobrang natural and automatic na yung pag-care niya,” Enchong shared.

The best advice from his mom? “My parents always tell me never ever to be mayabang, or step down on other people, because they will be the ones to lift you up when you fall down and help you get back on your feet,” he explained.

It’s a good thing Enchong could easily get a lift during those bad days with his latest endorsement from Jollibee. “The Jollibee Coffee and Chocolate Floats are the perfect cure for a bad day,” he claimed.

Enchong even recalled the time when he ordered floats for all of the cast members while shooting his new movie. “It was really so hot, so I decided to order Jollibee Floats for everyone on the set, and they really proved to be a delicious way to perk up a hectic workday.”

“So, masaya ako kasi no’ng nagsisimula kami, hindi namin alam kung paano kami magkakaro’n ng chemistry—kami as barkada.

“Kasi hindi naman kami gano’n ka-close to begin with, pero along the way, doon na-build ‘yong friendship.

NO COMPETITION. Sa kanilang apat, si Enchong ang may pinakamaraming exposure pagdating sa pag-arte.

Gayunman, sinabi ni Enchong na walang anumang kumpetisyon sa pagitan nilang apat.

“Kasi ‘yong pelikula is also an ensemble of a lot of artists,” paliwanag niya.

“Kumbaga, you just have to be open na lahat kayo will have your own moments, will have your own stories at the same time.

“And pinakamaganda kasi do’n, ang pinakabida talaga is ‘yong reunion na plot, hindi ‘yong mga artista.

“Kaya siguro ang pinaka-importante is ‘yong teamwork naming lahat.”

Hindi naman kaila sa lahat na mayroong paghanga si Enchong sa young Kapamilya actress.

Ngunit hanggang ngayon ay hinihintay pa rin ni Enchong ang pagpayag ng pamilya ni Julia na maligawan ito.

“Uhm, sa takdang panahon pa rin,” sagot niya nang aming kumustahin ang panliligaw niya kay Julia.

“Sabi ko nga, kapag nasa tamang edad… kailangan mo kasing respetuhin ‘yong kagustuhan ng lola niya, ng mama niya, ng management.

“So, kumbaga, learn how to wait.”

Bagamat hindi pa pormal na makapanligaw si Enchong kay Julia, natutuwa raw siyang may natututunan sila sa isa’t isa.

‘Tulad na lamang daw nang matuto siyang “mag-relax” mula sa trabaho.

“[Tinuruan niya ako] how to relax, learn how to take the time na puwede kang matulog, mag-relax.

“Kasi mahirap kapag palagi kang trabaho nang trabaho, minsan nabe-burnout ka,” sabi ni Enchong.

Aminado si Enchong na dati’y workaholic siya.

Paliwanag niya, “Siyempre parang andiyan lahat ng mga bagay, mga oportunidad na puwede mong makuha from the work.

“Sayang naman kung papakawalan mo ‘yon, and minsan [to] take it slow, di ba?”

NEW PROJECT. Samantala, matapos daw niyang gawin ang pelikulang The Reunion, muli raw sasabak si Enchong sa isang teleserye.

Ngunit sa pagkakataong ito’y hindi na ang ka-loveteam niyang si Erich Gonzales ang makakatambal niya, kundi si Maja Salvador.

“This Friday [May 11] we’ll have a story conference with the new teleserye na gagawin.

“So, talagang dapat na-maximize na namin ‘yong vacation namin kasi hanggang do’n na lang talaga, hanggang ngayon na lang talaga.

“[Kasama ko] si Maja. Marami kami, pero at the moment, siya muna ang sasabihin ko.

“First team-up, first time na I won’t be with Erich.

“So, it’s a challenge, again, because it’s another chapter of your career, of whatever work you have.

“Kasi for the longest time, I’m with Erich.

“So, sana matulungan niya ako.”

“We go out but we end up parang after the end of the night marami na kaming magkasama,” Enchong relates.

He admires Julia because she shares her earnings with her family.

“She knows how to handle her own hard-earned money. Ang pinakanakakatuwa dun eh hindi nya sinosolo yung kinikita nya. Andun yung pamilya nya palagi, inuuna nya yun,” he reveals.

Because he shares the same outlook, Enchong finds it easy to get along and like Julia as well.

US Tour

Enchong adds that he got to cross a lot of items from his bucket list when he went on a US tour.

“Shark-diving, cliff-diving, watch [an] NBA game live,” Enchong rattles off the things he was able to do.

Enchong adds that “The Reunion,” his upcoming film with Julia, is 70 percent done.

Here, he shares the spotlight with Xian Lim, Enrique Gil and Kean Cipriano. But the actual spotlight will be on the plot itself, he says.

“And pinakamaganda kasi do’n, ang pinakabida talaga is ‘yong reunion na plot, hindi ‘yong mga artista.”

He also shares that after their new movie, he’ll be returning to primetime via a new teleserye.

“Si Maja (Salvador), sya muna lang sasabihin ko,” he says when asked to reveal the cast of the teleserye.

Another new development in his career is the absence of Erich Gonzales as part of a love team.

“It’s another challenge,” he states.

Masaya kasi nandiyan pa rin yung special someone. We watch movies, [do] videoke…We want to take it slow.”

He added that there are things they have to consider before jumping into a relationship. “Sa takdang panahon pa rin. Sabi ko nga kapag nasa tamang edad, kailangan mo respetuhin yung kagustuhan ng mama niya, lola niya, ng management. Kumbaga learn how to wait.”

Enchong further shared that they trade secrets about making good investments to secure the future of their respective families. As it is, Julia’s attracted to guys who have a sense of responsibility and maturity. “Oo naman [I inspire her to think of establishing her own business]. Actually siya mismo, she knows how to handle her own hard-earned money. Pinaka nakakatuwa dun hindi niya sinosolo lahat ng kinikita niya, nandun yung pamilya niya palagi, mga kapatid niya. Inuuna niya yun before herself. Dun sa bagay na yun pareho kami. Kumbaga effortless.” What tips does he give her? “Pinaka-advice ko sa kanya, huwag niyang uubusin lahat nung savings niya for the house. Oo naman, she knows.”

On the other hand, Julia inspires him to take it easy and enjoy life. “Siguro [ang naituro niya sa akin] through constant advice, learn how to relax, to take time na pwede ka matulog or mag-relax. Kasi mahirap ‘pag palagi ka trabaho ng trabaho, minsan mabu-burn out ka rin. Oo, may pagka-workaholic kasi ako dahil nandiyan lahat ng opportunities na pwede mong makuha from work and sayang naman kung pakakawalan mo. Pero minsan take it slow.”

Although he’s been vocal about his admiration for the young actress, Dee emphasized to Bulletin Entertainment and other members of the press during the Jollibee Floats press conference on May 8 held at Jollibee Roosevelt branch that for the time being, he has set aside pursuing young Montes—who happens to be her family’s bread winner—in respect to “requests” of the people surrounding her.

“Sa takdang panahon pa rin. Sabi ko nga kapag nasa tamang edad na. Kailangan mo kasing respetuhin ‘yung kagustuhan ng Mama niya, Lola niya, ng management. So kumbaga learn how to wait,” realted Dee, who, in a previous interview, was quoted as saying that he would start pursuing the actress seriously soon as she turns 18.

But he reiterated that they’re in “constant communication” and they are “very happy” as of the moment.

Although they are quite far from becoming a couple, it appears that the two Kapamilya talents are really comfortable with one another’s company, to the point that they’ve introduced each other to their respective families.

“Yeah actually my mom helped Julia for her house,” he said obviously pertaining to the house that Montes recently bought for her family. Dee stated that his mom helped the 16-year-old actress to scout for the house to purchase, which the latter considers as her birthday gift to herself.

The model-athlete added that he also visits the actress’ “Lola, Mama and ‘yung dalawang kapatid niya” every now and then because he believes that “if you care about someone you should be able to share the people you love as well to that person.”

It seems that the Fil-German actress has won the heart of Dee’s mom as he related in the interview that “I never heard anything na hindi niya gusto [kay Julia], it’s always praises. Kasi nga alam niya kung gaano na rin siya ka-responsible and she knows how much she loves her family. ”

Curiously, Dee shared that his mom and Montes are close enough that they even spend time together even without him, which for him is, as he jokes, quite “unfair.”

“Kasi ‘di ba they have their girl time, [plus] they have commonalities like when it comes to [love for] shoes, bags and sa thinking,” he mused aloud.

Meanwhile, aside from being a source of inspiration, the 23-year-old heartthrob revealed that Montes has somehow tamed his being workaholic. Apparently, the actress has taught him the value of having a down time amid their tight working schedules. In fact, he and Montes would often relax together by watching movies, doing videoke and going out with other friends.

In turn, he advised Montes to not empty her savings account for the house she plans to buy.
