Big breaks for TV-film newcomers

Showbiz loves established stars, because their popularity and legions of loyal fans are good insurance that their new projects will turn out to be hits.

But, what happens when “old” stars’ careers turn cold? Producers just have to discover new talents, despite the time, money and nurturing involved, because the local entertainment scene is youth-oriented to a fault and young fans have to be empathetically happy to keep the industry profitably robust.

Thus, this season, some lucky and hopefully plucky new leads are being given their big breaks in “starmaking” TV-film productions:

Comedic approach

On the big screen, Erich Gonzales and Enchong Dee have been given their big movie break in “I Do,” and the good news is, they’ve passed muster as the biz’s newest “love team.” They’re also in the teleserye “Magkaribal,” and the expectation is that, due to the success of “I Do,” their tandem could topbill a new TV series—knock on wood?
