Star Magic Ball remains a-glittering

Star Magic Ball - Arrival (September 05)Amid all the controversies plaguing its stars, Star Magic’s annual ball remains as glittering as ever with most of the talent group’s artists in attendance.

There were the expected pairings, such as Piolo Pascual and KC Concepcion, Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, Erich Gonzales and Enchong Dee, Toni Gonzaga and Paul Soriano, Kristine Hermosa and Oyo Sotto, there were match-ups that kept the attendees a-buzz. Jake Cuenca and Melissa Ricks showed everyone how deeper a relationship gets over time, despite the proverbial cloak that shrouds their intimacy. The same goes for John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao, who were never paired on cinema, much less on TV, but had been the loveliest couple in my book as they showed affection for each other as if nothing else existed.

But the people who attended the ball were at a frenzy upon seeing an unexpected pair entering the Makati Shangri-La’s Rizal Ballroom—Bea Alonzo and Zanjoe Marudo. Although Star Magic had not made any serious move in packaging these two stars as a couple, they went on and presented themselves together, at least as each other’s date for that night. Will that evolve into something serious at the soonest time? Let’s wait and see.

There were three who came conspicuously alone. Diether Ocampo came in his usual dashing self, all beaming to everyone, despite a recent break-up with non-showbiz girlfriend Rima Ostwani. Sam Milby also attended the event alone, since his rumored girlfriend, international singer Marie Digby, is US-based. Anne Curtis, Sam’s former girlfriend, also got into the ball in her lonesome, but not without stunning the crowd with her glam (her Michael Cinco gown helped a lot).

Woman of the hour Angelica Panganiban became a real head turner as she walked inside the ballroom with boyfriend Derek Ramsay. She remained tightlipped on the recent catfight with ex-Star Magic talent Claudine Barretto as advised by her lawyer, Joji Alonso. She told this blogger that Angelica’s camp was just waiting for a response from Claudine on the demand letter they issued. She said they are still hoping that both camps settle the issue without needing to go to court.

Despite this, however, Angelica seemed unperturbed as she went from one table to another greeting fellow Star Magic artists and handlers. Derek did the same.

But what really made the night special were performances by the Velasco Brothers, who did another electrifying gravity defying number, Jovit Baldivino and Jed Madela (who both sang popular rock ballads), a resounding chorus of specially arranged songs from Star Magic talents straight out of ABS-CBN’s “Idol,” a thematic dance led by comedienne Pokwang, and the finale led by Martin Nievera who composed the song “All For One, One For All” just the night before and sang it with all of the Star Magic talents present.
