Enchong Dee defends Bea Alonzo from worried EnRich fans
Like the rest of the cast of Magkaribal, Enchong Dee is happy about the good ratings of their primetime teleserye. “I just want to thank everyone, for those who went home early just to watch us kasi nakakatuwa ang response ng mga tao, kahit hindi pa actually nagkakabanggaan ‘yung mga totoong magkakaribal pinapanood na nila,” he said.
Enchong portrays Caloy, a kargador in Divisoria and the best friend of Gelai (Bea Alonzo’s character) whom he harbors secret feelings for. With the romantic twist that their characters have—and since Enchong is vocal about his admiration of Bea, there have been claims that this could be a threat to the team up of Enchong and Erich Gonzales, who is also part of Magkaribal. However, Enchong explained that instead of looking on this in a negative light, a love triangle can actually make a love team more interesting. “Hindi pa naman po tapos ‘yung Magkaribal, nagsisimula pa lang po,” Enchong pointed out. “Kumbaga marami pang kailangang abangan kasi there will be turn of events, kumbaga hintayin natin kung ano ‘yung magaganda kasi maganda dun sa isang chemistry may opposition, may kumakampi.
“Katulad nga ng Katorse, hindi naman talaga magwo-work kung kami lang ni Erich ‘yung [magka-love team] kailangan namin si Ejay (Falcon), kailangan namin si Xian (Lim). Kumbaga it’s a team work.”
The actor also pointed out that it is unfair that Bea be accused of being the third wheel in the Enchong-Erich love team. As a matter of fact, they are all friends in the set. “Unang-una, hindi po kontrabida si Bea on-cam at off-cam, magkaibigan po ‘yung dalawang ‘yon (Bea and Erich). Minsan nga nawawala na ako sa eksena sila na lang ‘yung nasa eksena kuwentuhan lang nang kuwentuhan. Siguro hintayin nila ‘yung Magkaribal hanggang katapusan.”
As a kargador in Magkaribal, Enchong needs to be shirtless in certain scenes and the actor shared that he no has any qualms of doing this as long as it is necessary in the scenes. “Kumbaga kung may purpose ‘yung eksena na mag-topless, bakit hindi? Pero kung hindi naman [kailangan], bakit pa?” he said.
Enchong also shared that he was really proud of his recent stint in the Bench Uncut Underwear show some few weeks ago because he really worked hard to be fit for the show. “Two weeks walang dessert, regular training, and ‘yung araw ng show mismo, hindi masyadong nagkakakain, tubig nang tubig,” he said.
Although it was not his first time to walk the ramp for a Bench event, Enchong revealed the he still felt nervous because he did know how the crowd would react to him. “Nakakakaba kasi hindi mo alam kung nag-react ba ‘yung mga tao sa ‘yo or hindi.” He was also grateful and flattered for those who showed support to him that night.
