Star Magic turns 18
Formerly known as Talent Center, ABS-CBN Star Magic has produced most if not all of today’s biggest names in television and movies. As it turns 18, Star Magic continues to be at its best today and in the years to come.
Star Magic is the Kapamilya network’s home based talent management group that discovers talent and develops them into celebrities. Star Magic’s main goal since day one is to hone potential stars who could be the network’s in-house talents. From personality development, physical enhancement to rigorous dance, singing, hosting and acting workshops, Star Magic handles each talent with love and care.
Afternoon and primetime programs of ABS-CBN shows are dominated by Star Magic’s leading ladies and leading men. Prime artists Piolo Pascual, Kristine Hermosa, Diether Ocampo, Angelica Panganiban, Sam Milby, Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz are loved by many with their notable performances. The next generation of stars namely Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Maja Salvador, Andi Eigenmann, Bangs Garcia, Erich Gonzales, Enchong Dee, Empress Schuck, Rayver Cruz, Matteo Guidicelli, Melissa Ricks, Jason Abalos, Matt Evans and Shaina Magdayao are admired by how they become lead stars in their respective shows. Xyriel Manabat of Agua Bendita and Zaijan Jaranilla of May Bukas Pa are two child wonders who become instant household names. Most have grown to remember them with their characters and portrayal not only here in the country but abroad as well. Kristine’s Gulong ng Palad (Stand For Love) is soon to be shown in Mainland China after Pangako Sa’Yo (Promise) become a hit. Kimerald’s Sana Maulit Muli (Chances) and Bea-John Lloyd’s Maging Sino Ka Man (More than Love) and Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay (The Long Wait) is set to be aired in China. Presently shown in Brunei, Piolo’s Lobo (Self Wolf: The Last Sentinel) won 30th BANFF World Television in Toronto Canada last year and is soon to be released in Europe and Africa.
Various award-giving bodies have recognized Star Magic’s homegrown artists. Philippine Movie Press Club’s (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies and TV, Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Awards, Gawad Urian, Southeast Asian Foundation for Children’s Television (SEAFCTV), Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), Gawad Tanglaw, ENPRESS Golden Screen Awards, Anak TV Seal Awards, USTV awards, Pasado Awards and many more have all in one way or another granted Star Magic artists with much deserved recognitions.
Being the most in-demand actors, Star Magic artists become credible product endorsers both in print and television. The country’s biggest companies have chosen Star Magic artists as effective product ambassadors.
Star Magic is also the home of world class artists and performers. Rhap Salazar and Jed Madela are two of Star Magic’s pride as they become the World Championship of the Performing Arts (WCOPA) Grand Champions. Rhap graced in the Ellen De Generes show in Los Angeles California while Jed wowed not only our fellow kababayans abroad but other nationalities as well. Star Magic World Tour Concert brought almost more than 70 performers to Canada and California. It was followed by another jam-packed concert in Manila held at the big dome. Piolo Pascual was invited to Cannes Film Festival for his indie film, Manila.
The most-awaited annual Star Magic Ball is the biggest and grandest gathering of stars but it’s not all glitz and glamour for the talent management as Star Magic encourages everyone to be an advocate of social awareness programs.
Star Magic organized a fashion show, Magic for a Cause, for the benefit of Ondoy and Pepeng victims last Oct. 11. A big achievement for Star Magic as the event raised millions in one night. With Star Magic’s aim to promote youth empowerment, 150 Star Magic artists and 250 students from different schools and organizations joined forces last March 14 for the 1st Star Magic Run. Aside from Star Magic events, there are artists who do charity works. Diether Ocampo has become Reader’s Digest cover for his contribution in society through Kids Foundation. Diet is also an active member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals Foundation (PETA). Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu had a birthday celebration with kids from Cancer Warriors and Dr. Fabella Hospital respectively. Erich Gonzales recently treated kids of Hospicio de San Jose as her way of sharing her blessings. Piolo Pascual founded Hebreo Foundation that aims to provide for less fortunate youth and World Vision Ambassador Sam Milby is sponsoring six children to school.
What is there to look forward to is that Star Magic will strive to carry on the success and produce more bankable and responsible celebrities in the next 18 years and more.
