Erich’s key to success is professionalism!
It’s water under the bridge, but “Tanging Yaman’s” Erich Gonzales revealed that she’s still hurt with the ill-comments of her co-actor Ejay Falcon about her rise to fame in “Katorse.”
News had it that Ejay allegedly commented that neither Erich nor their afternoon soap opera “Katorse” wouldn’t be popular if not for him. And such was an unexpected remark from Ejay that hurt the actress.
Erich could only attribute the foul remarks of Ejay to what she told the actor a long time ago when they were just starting to tape “Katorse.”
“I told him that when it comes to work, he must be prepared, ready and that he knew his lines. Mahirap naman po kung magiging burden po siya sa amin, sa mga ka-trabaho niya. It’s not all the time may aalalay sa kanya. We all have our own jobs as actors… I’ve been in showbiz for a long time and I never used anyone,” Erich shared.
She added that ever since she stepped into show business, she has prioritized her work as an actress.
“Work is work for me. I’m very professional with my job that I don’t bring my personal life to my work. Pag dumarating ako sa set. I’m always ready, on time and I was never a problem to people I have worked with,” she stressed.
As a co-actor, Erich revealed that she and Ejay are in good terms. They are in their usual “hi-hello-friendship level” and nothing more. She is also glad to be working with him and Enchong Dee again in their latest soap opera entitled “Tanging Yaman” which is scheduled to air this Monday, Jan. 11, 2010.
“I’m very happy na makakatrabaho ko ulit si Enchong. Walang masyadong adjustments kasi sanay na kaming tatlo sa isa’t isa. We look forward to having the same support that we got in ‘Katorse’ in ‘Tanging Yaman.’ This is not just a love story but also a family story that everyone will love,” the actress expressed.
Compared to Ejay Falcon, Enchong is her closest friend.
“I’ve worked with him the longest time. But like Enchong we don’t entertain ‘love life.’ We want to focus on work and we’re happy that viewers love our team-up. We’re very comfortable working together and we trust each other. Enchong is the perfect gentleman for me,” she commented.
Unlike her previous role as Nene, playing Fina in “Tanging Yaman” is a new challenge for Erich. This time around she shows off a tough persona and someone who would give her all to fight for her family and for what is right. Nevertheless, Erich admitted that she sees a touch of herself in her roles as Nene and Fina.
“To be honest I can relate to both my characters. Si Nene kasi is very family-oriented and she’ll endure whatever comes her way. Pero siyempre dahil 14 years old lang siya, wala siyang matatakbuhan kundi ang pamilya niya. While Fina doesn’t back-off from any trials in her life. She will always do her best to win over them,” she said.
As to her preparations, she said that she had to be focused on her new character to shun mannerisms or nuances of her past role as Nene. Having a tough image also poses a challenge. According to her, if Fina’s about to cry, she should hold back her tears and show that she couldn’t be stepped on or hurt.
And how does she feel about her follow-up project?
“I’m very thankful to ABS-CBN for giving me ‘Tanging Yaman.’ It’s very overwhelming and I’m grateful for another chance to show people what I can do as an actress. Kung ano man ang meron ako ngayon talagang mas pagbubutihan ko po. At hindi ko po hahayaan na masira lang po ito ng kahit ano,” she replied.
What makes her proud of her achievement at the moment is the fact that she knows she has worked hard for it. Unlike others who were lucky to be given instant stardom, Erich, despite her entry via a star search called “Star Circle Quest” didn’t make it as expected early on in her career.
“Like what I’ve said before, I didn’t get this overnight. Matagal din akong naghintay. I played support for years and I never complained…when I was in ‘SCQ’ wala akong alam like how showbiz was. But I learned a lot through the years and habang tumatagal marami akong lessons na nakuha everyday,” she related.
For Erich though, “Katorse” played a big part in her current success and status as an actress.
“I always believe that everything has its own time,” opined the 19-year- old star. “Thank God dumating ang ‘Katorse.’ But I had to think long and hard if I was ready to do medyo daring and mature role… dumating sa tamang panahon na ready ako ang ‘Katorse’ and it was life-changing as it opened doors that made me grow as an actress!”
Such is the rationale for her state of mind – when it comes to work, she needn’t rest because opportunities are growing scarce in showbiz!
When asked what she’d do if she was a presidential daughter, like her role in “Tanging Yaman?”
“Ako po talaga gusto ko yung education para sa mga kabataan ngayon kasi nga education is the key to success. It is very important kasi ang mga kabataan ang future at puwede silang maging future leader ng ating bansa,” pointed out Erich.
Erich Gonzales is currently also a student at the Trinity University of Asia taking up Mass Communication.
