Enchong excites crowd at UAAP opening
YOUNG actor-athlete Enchong Dee said he was honored to be part of the 72nd season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), which opened Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Excitement and scream filled the arena as Enchong showed up to represent De La Salle University at the oath of sportsmanship, with other seven representatives from the rest of the UAAP university members.
Enchong has been part of the La Salle’s swimming team for three years. Since then, he consistently won the UAAP swimming title.
In a phone interview with him, shortly after the UAAP opening ceremony, Enchong revealed to Sun.Star that he has yet to prepare for this season’s game.
“Hindi pa ako prepared. Kapag natapos ang taping nag-te-training (ako). Hindi naman continuous ang training kumbaga nagsasarili na ako just to keep up. (I am not yet prepared. After my tapings, that’s when I train. But not continuous training, I do it myself just to keep up,” he said.
He admitted that he is having a hard time balancing sports and acting. But he said he will try to plunge into the water again on Monday. “I train for two hours every morning at La Salle. I am trained by Coach Guy Concepcion.”
With his excellent experience in his previous swimming battles, Enchong hoped that he will again bag UAAP’s swimming title this season.
Aside from topping the UAAP swimming game, Enchong is also part of the Philippine national swim team and has participated in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and 2006 Asian Games. He was also part of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
He has about 400 medals under his belt as a swimmer. This young athlete is currently studying Development Policy at La Salle.
As for his showbiz career, Enchong is happy to share that he will be appearing in ABS-CBN’s upcoming teleserye “Katorse.”
He told Sun.Star that he was recently added to the roster of stars in “Katorse,” which is topbilled by Erich Gonzales with leading men Ejay Falcon and Xian Lim.
“I am so lucky to be part of this series. It feels different because I will be working with veteran actors like Ms. Cherry Gil and Gardo Versoza. If in ‘Boys Town’ we (ASAP’s Gigger Boys) could all be noisy, this time I should behave a little,” he said.
